FIBBIALLA

Visit Fibbialla di Valleriana, a small town 424 meters above sea level

Nestled among vineyards and chestnut groves, it is typical for its panoramic balconies. Near this castle, located in a strategic position, the Lucchese and Florentines clashed numerous times in order to gain control of it; eventually Fibbialla became part of the Lucca dominion. This town has suffered the most from the abandonment of its inhabitants, it is in fact the least populated of all the towns in the valley.

To see in Fibbialla: the 15th-century parish church of San Michele Arcangelo, with its single nave, marks the entrance to the village and is the sole landmark of its urban layout. Inside the church, there are several 17th and 18th-century paintings of significant value and a 15th-century sculpture representing the Virgin of the Annunciation. Some remains of the ancient defensive walls are still visible today.
