Piazza Mazzini in Pescia is not just an urban space, but a true open-air architectural gallery. The buildings surrounding it reflect the wealth and influence of the noble families who, between the 16th and 19th centuries, made the city a major economic and cultural center in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
It is the beating heart and open-air living room of Pescia. Unlike many enclosed, circular medieval squares, Piazza Mazzini presents itself as a wide, open space inviting a stroll. Formerly known as Piazza Grande, it was for centuries the site of the market and large popular gatherings. Its current shape is the result of centuries of architectural stratification that have harmonized its volumes.
Along the perimeter of the square there are buildings of noble elegance that tell of the prestige of the Pescia families, while to the north we find the Palazzo del Vicario , seat of the Municipality of Pescia and in the southern part .’Oratorio della Madonna di Piè di Piazza of Renaissance style attributed to "Il Buggiano." Inside the small, charming chapel are wooden decorations and panels from the 17th century.

Today, Piazza Mazzini continues to be the setting for the city's main events. Every Saturday morning, it hosts the lively weekly market, a tradition rooted in Pescia's mercantile past. It is also the natural setting for the Palio dei Rioni, where the square transforms to host the archery challenge in a unique medieval atmosphere.
