Medicina Borgo delle Dieci Castella

Medicina 1

Medicina was annexed to the Municipality of Pescia in 1881, along with 120 hectares of state-owned land belonging to Villa Basilica. The parishes, however, remain under the Diocesi of Lucca.

Cosa Visit Medicina : :

The parish church dedicated to Saints Sisto and Martino. The church is located in the square at the top of the town. It was built starting in 1833, incorporating what remains of the ancient fortifications as well as the sixteenth-century Oratory of the S.S. Rocco and Sabastiano. The old parish church outside the door, located behind the current cemetery, was thus abandoned because it was in ruins. The Bell Tower was a tower of the ancient city walls.

Continuing beyond the town on a carriage road that passes through a forest of centuries-old chestnut trees we arrive at the Hermitage-Oratory of Sant'Anna di Medicina. It is located on the slopes of Monte Telegrafo, which can also be reached from Botticino (LU) following the ancient ridge route that connected the Alta Valleriana to Villa Basilica and Collodi. The Hermitage, built on two floors, is already known in the century. XV, is next to the Oratory, built in 1648, to form a single complex.

Inside the Oratory there are the frescoes Madonna with Child from the 16th century, and Saint Hermit from the 17th century.
