It represents the southeastern area of \u200b\u200bthe city center, traditionally known as the Duomo district. It participates annually in the Palio degli Arcieri di Pescia, one of the city's main historical events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History<\/strong> of Santa Maria district<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Rione Santa Maria was founded in February 1981 on the initiative of a group of residents of the neighborhood, including Manfredini, Nieri, Bottaini and Franchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The district's creation was part of a revival of the city's historical traditions, which were being revitalized in those years. The first official appearance was on May 3, 1981, during a historical parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Since its founding, the district has been distinguished by a strong sense of belonging, active participation in city life, and a constant commitment to preserving local traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Participation in the Palio<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Santa Maria district takes part in the Palio degli Arcieri, a historical reenactment linked to the dedication of the city of Pescia to Florence in 1339.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Within the event, the district contributes through several fundamental activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Management of the local tavern;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Flag-wavers group;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Musicians;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Archers, protagonists of the competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">These elements are essential to keeping the city's medieval tradition alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Santa Maria district is one of the most successful districts of the event, having won eleven Palios:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">1979 \u2013 1st victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">1981 \u2013 2\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">1982 \u2013 3\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">1985 (may) \u2013 4\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">1986 \u2013 5\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2009 \u2013 6\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2012 \u2013 7\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2014 \u2013 8\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2015 \u2013 9\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2017 \u2013 10\u00aa victory;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">2024 \u2013 11\u00aa victory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Attivit\u00e0 e organizzazione<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Today the district operates as a cultural and sports association, divided into several groups:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Archers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Musicians;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Flag wavers;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\">Historical dances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">These activities allow the district to participate in both the Palio and other historical and cultural events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Another story<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Santa Maria district represents a fundamental part of Pescia's historical and cultural identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Its roots date back to the Middle Ages, when the city developed along the Pescia River and developed into distinct districts. The district takes its name from the Church of Santa Maria, the spiritual center and focal point of the community's daily life. This area represented one of the oldest heart of the city, characterized by artisanal activities, small workshops, and a population deeply rooted in local traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Over the centuries, the district has maintained a strong identity, handing down customs, symbols, and a deep sense of belonging. With the birth of the modern Palio dei Rioni di Pescia, Santa Maria has found a new way to express its pride through archery competitions, accompanied by historical parades, Renaissance costumes, and reenactments that transport the city back in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Santa Maria district is known for the passion of its contrada members, the care taken in preparing the Palio, and its strong team spirit. While it isn't always the most successful district, it often takes center stage thanks to the determination and bond between its members, who continue to keep a centuries-old tradition
