Sorana is an ancient castle that was destroyed by the Pisans in 1362. This town is famous for its typical beans, white beans with a delicate flavor, even celebrated by Gioacchino Rossini, which are grown in the lower part of the town, near the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to see in Sorana<\/strong>: Visiting Sorana means rediscovering a close connection with water at every turn; simply stroll through its steep streets and reach the fountain-adorned central square dominated by the Parish Church of SS. Pietro e Paolo, also embellished with a graceful loggia fountain. Of interest are the various altars inside the church, the baptismal font, the pulpit, all in pietra serena, and, above all, the 16th-century Crucifix and the mid-16th-century painted terracotta Virgin of the Rosary (attributed to Matteo Civitali).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walk from Sorana to Lignana, an ancient castle of which only ruins remain, is interesting. The family of Friar Domenico Buonvicini, a devoted disciple of Savonarola, came from Lignana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, when the product is harvested, the village committee organizes the traditional \u201cBean Festival\u201d in the town square, featuring tastings of this precious legume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
